The Midland district led the state in permits and oil and gas completions during the month of November, according to the Railroad Commission of Texas.
The Midland district again totaled more than 50 percent of the permits to drill oil and gas holes (51.3 percent) and more than 50 percent of the new oil completions (50.3 percent), according to the RRC. The Midland district also recorded 32.3 percent of the new gas completions during the month.
The 379 new oil and gas permits were nearly 300 more than the San Antonio area, while the 246 oil completions also topped the second-ranked San Antonio area, which reported 83.
The breakdown of well types for original drilling permits in November 2021 is 202 oil, 121 gas, 479 oil or gas, 34 injection, and six other permits, according to the Railroad Commission. In November 2021, Commission staff processed 541 oil, 122 gas and 53 injection completions for new drills, re-entries and re-completions, compared to 537 oil, 98 gas, and 127 injection completions in November 2020.
Total well completions processed for 2021 year-to-date for new drills, re-entries and re-completions are 8,483 compared to 13,573 recorded during the same period in 2020.
