Improvements to Beck Road are coming.
So is a meeting to hear from the public on the massive project.
A Beck Road public input meeting will be held 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Novi Police Department Training Center, 45125 W. 10 Mile Road. The meeting is the second town hall organized as part of the “Beck to the Future” Initiative the cities embarked on last year, and is part of an environmental assessment process that is required of the cities partaking in the project.
“If anyone is interested in what is going on and the solutions we are looking at, it’s a great opportunity to see the plans and talk to us without much pressure,” Novi City Manager Pete Auger said.
Engineers and Department of Public Works representatives will be on hand to answer questions and to hear suggestions and concerns.
Auger said many comments have been coming in since the first public input session last year, with a general consensus that improvements are needed to keep traffic moving, but “no one wants a five-lane super highway. A lot of people are concerned with aesthetics.”
The goals of the project are to expand Beck Road to five lanes from the current 2-3 lanes between Pontiac Trail and Six Mile Road, improving traffic flow and safety and improving quality of life in the area.

Landscaped center medians will also be considered when appropriate and alternative modes of transport may be added through enhancements to walking and bike paths on both sides of the road.
Maps will be on display of proposed Beck Road improvements from 8 Mile Road to Pontiac Trail. In Novi, Auger anticipates the first section of Beck Road that will see improvements is Grand River to 11 Mile Road. Last month, the city approved purchasing vacant land for a quarter of a million dollars with Beck Road improvements in mind.
Federal funds are anticipated for the multi-million dollar Beck Road project. Auger does not expect construction to begin until at least 2023.
