Yogapalooza is set for 10 a.m. outside of Midland Center for the Arts. Beloved family music artist and pioneering kids yoga educator Bari Koral leads this highly interactive concert that blends imaginative songs, yoga poses, dance breaks and play. Chemical City Derby Girls' first annual Summer SMACKdown Spectacular is set for 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at Midland Roll Arena. This all- day roller derby event includes a triple header of roller derby scrimmages. When not watching the action, make sure to walk around and shop the many vendor booths and Pro Shop for all of your roller skating and fun life needs. Tickets are $15 per person if purchasing on Eventbrite (plus fees) or $20 per person at the Midland Roll Arena door.
A Native Plant Walk is set for 6:30-8 p.m. at Little Forks Conservancy's Riverview Natural Area on North Homer Road. Enjoy an evening walk to see what plants are blooming and growing, along with wildlife sightings. Guests are encouraged to wear closed toe shoes, appropriate clothes for the weather and bring a water bottle; field guides or binoculars are optional. Friends and kids are welcome to come along. The Urban Kitchen Garden: Education for Gardeners is set for 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Creative 360. Gain insights into gardening in an urban or small space setting. This presentation will be followed by an open forum for discussion and tips from master gardeners and others in the community. These gatherings grew out of the collaborative efforts of the Midland County Master Gardener Association, Creative 360, the City of Midland Horticulture Department, and Evergreen Garden Club. Sanford Civil War Veterans Cemetery Walk is set for 1-5 p.m. at Jerome Township Cemetery. Come along on a guided walk through cemetery just north of Midland in Sanford. Listen to stories from Sanford’s own Civil War veterans, portrayed by local actors. Hear of the war and life after when they came to settle and make their way in early Midland County. The 7th Annual Tapped Craft Beer Festival is set for 6-9 p.m. at the Larkin Parking Garage in Downtown Midland. The first two levels of the structure will have the brewery samples scattered throughout, while the top floor will be transformed into an interactive beer garden. Live music will be performed by Brett Mitchell and the Mitchfits. General admission is $30 and can be purchased at tapped.eventbrite.com. Clay Hand Building is set for 1:30-4 p.m. at Creative 360. Dive hands-first into the slippery, lumpy, squishy world of clay. Transform imaginative ideas into both functional forms and artistic sculpture. By the end of this week-long wallow into the world of clay hand building with artist Melinda Gaal, participants will know how to pinch, coil, slab and glaze your way through a ceramic studio. When the captain of the basketball team meets the new brainy transfer student, the pair instantly connect and discover their passion for singing. After they get cast together in their school musical, the pair sets off a chain of events that upsets the "Status Quo" and puts all of East High into a musical frenzy. Local high school students will join Broadway veterans in the cast. Other performances are set for 8 p.m. June 24 and 25. The John Pratt Mosaic House stands as a reminder of a man who, through art, battled his demons and inspired countless others along the way. Visitors will learn about John Pratt and the twists and turns his life took that led him to this extraordinary endeavor. Everyone will then drive separately to the house to hear more stories and experience the house for themselves. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $8.
Pints for Pups is set for 5-8 p.m. at Midland Brewing Company. The public is welcome to enjoy a night of great dogs (bring yours), drinks, food, music, outdoor games, a raffle auction and mini pet photoshoots. Support the animals of Humane Society of Midland County while having a great time with friends. Cover is a $15 donation, which includes a pint glass and one beer. Victoria Ritter grew up in Midland and after earning a degree in English at Grand Valley State University, returned. She joined the Daily News as its newsroom clerk, and eventually began editing obituaries, and in 2016 wrote her first article. She loves the arts, from reading and creative writing to catching a movie or singing in her church choir.
