We look ahead to the top-of-the-table Group B clash between hosts Spain and Canada at the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals
A chance for Spain to go top of Group B and ensure a place in the Final 8. The Spanish will have eyes on finishing in top spot and victory over Canada ensures they not only qualify for the Knockout Stage, but they will also go through as group winners.
Group B results and standings
It would also set up a winner-takes-all battle between Canada and Serbia, with the winner of that tie going through as Group B runner-up.
Korea Republic will be rooting for the North Americans, as a Canadian win keeps everyone’s hopes of qualifying from Group B alive.
The teams have met on three previous occasions. Most recently, Spain overcame Canada to win the Davis Cup title in 2019 with Roberto Bautista Agut defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime. Both players are expected to feature in today’s tie but not playing against one another.
Canada has won one of its previous match-ups with Spain – on home soil in 2013.

Who to watch out for
World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz has yet to take to the court. Should Sergi Bruguera deem him fit and ready after his US Open exploits last week, we could be in store for a blockbuster match between Alcaraz and Auger-Aliassime.
They have been touted as the face of the next generation of tennis superstars. Auger-Aliassime won the only previous match-up between them at last year’s US Open after Alcaraz was forced to retire at 6-3, 3-1 down.
Should Canada be able to pinch one of the singles matches, it sets up an intriguing doubles that would likely feature Auger-Aliassime and Vasek Pospisil, but Spain doesn't have a tried and tested doubles combo. Marcel Granollers will feature, for sure, but Sergi Bruguera could spring a surprise with his partner.
“I know it's going to be tough on paper, but who knows what's going to happen. It's tennis. We need to be ready. We know we need to step it up and keep that energy going.
“They have a really good team. I think Carlos [Alcaraz] will try to play Friday and Sunday for sure. It's close to his home town. I feel like he wants to make the effort and try to play.”
“Always to play at home is very helpful for us, and for the last two, three years we are playing many ties at home.”
