The 7 TPI design gives the Milwaukee Torch Nitrus blades faster starting and smoother cuts. They also worked deeper gullets into the design for better chip ejection.

Of course, the most notable feature of the Nitrus Carbide blades revolves around the unique carbide blend. Milwaukee engineered their Nitrus carbide recip blades to last longer and cut more quickly in cast iron and other thick metals.

They should outperform and outlast diamond grit blades and, of course, standard carbide blades in these applications.

This combination of low TPI and a better carbide blend let Milwaukee Torch Nitrus blades outperform standard carbide teeth blades. The results let you quickly cut through tough metal without shortening blade life. It also means fewer blade changes.

Moving the Torch Nitrus blades beyond the standard Milwaukee Torch Carbide blades we tested back in 2018, the company adjusted the carbide blend. Compared against Diable, Lenox, and Milwaukee, the Torch Carbide blades finished with a respectable usable life but fell short Lenox.

That original carbide blade boasted a 50% longer life than standard bi-metal blades. Milwaukee Torch Nitrus claims 3x the life of standard carbide blades. We’ll have to wait and see what that means compared to the Torch Carbide until we get a few in our hands.

At $16.97 for the 6-inch blade and $27.99 for the 12-inch, they’re considerably more expensive than the regular Torch Carbide. For thicker cuts, however, the lifespan appears to justify the additional expense. If you measure your cost per cut and place a high value on your time (for blade changes), Nitrus Carbide blades should make a lot of sense.

Similar to how we saw improvement in thick metal cutting with a new blend of carbide, the Milwaukee Wrecker with Nitrus Carbide also improves demolition cutting.

The Milwaukee Wrecker with Nitrus Carbide features a 6TPI design. That makes for really fast wood cutting. The Nitrus carbide blend also lets these SawZall blades tear through embedded nails and metal—which you expect to encounter when doing demolition.

This Milwaukee Wrecker with Nitrus Carbide sets out to eliminate the need for blade changes when encountering various materials in the course of doing demo. Similar to the thick metal Nitrus blades, the Wrecker simply ramps up speed and chip clearing by dropping that TPI count and further reducing heat.

We actually love the idea of a Nitrus carbide demolition blade. Demo takes its toll on blades—mostly due to unexpected materials you encounter while cutting. What Milwaukee does with this blade is ensure that you can handle just about anything you run into. Nails, rebar, cast iron…don’t change your blade—just keep cutting.

Milwaukee doesn’t declare any specific numbers related to the speed of cutting or capacity with these blades. We expect to see longer life and near-identical speed. Both the carbide and Nitrus carbide Wrecker blades feature a fixed 6TPI design. That works really well for a multi-material application where you need to clear out debris and plan to regularly encounter wood.

As with all Nitrus carbide blades from Milwaukee, expect to pay a premium for the increased capability these blades offer. We wouldn’t hesitate to pick up a few and try them out if they could save us time and help us avoid slowing down progress to swap out blades.

When we look at blades like this we change our thinking to a more tactical approach. Nitrus carbide doesn’t set out to replace every blade in your arsenal. It positions itself as a time and money-saver when you know you might encounter the types of materials that eat other blades for lunch. If these blades can keep you from stopping work to swap out a blade—or work longer and cut more material—that’s a win.

I definitely prefer Lenox or MK Morse over Milwaukee and Diablo, but I am curious about these. At that price point, I’d wait until there is some sort of sale.
