Martello Piling has won a piling contract for the £165M “Verdant” office scheme in the Barbican area of central London.
Main contractor Midgard is working on amalgamating the buildings at 150 Aldersgate Street and 3-4 Bartholomew Place through a full re-clad and extension, while retaining roughly 80% of the existing structure.
The redevelopment of 150 Aldersgate Street involves the creation of a new basement and rear and rooftop extensions to create a 10 storey building. In addition, infill extensions will be added to the rear courtyard to link the building with 3-4 Bartholomew Place, which will comprise a new four storey building with a basement.
Martello Piling, part of the Franki UK Group, is working on the project’s foundations. It will be installing almost 90 450mm diameter sectional flight auger piles internally in the basement and externally for the new build and a crane base.
A combination of mini-piling rigs will be working simultaneously on site to cover all these areas.
Demolition of the roof top plant enclosure and rear service ramp to facilitate the refurbishment, recladding and extension has been completed. In addition, Erith Group has been busy with the development’s groundworks.
Designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, the Verdant scheme is due for completion in 2024 and will offer 12,540m2 of “sustainable” office space, including green roofs, terraces and hard and soft landscaping.
The project is part of private property company Topland’s development pipeline, in partnership with Beltane Asset Management.
