LAKE FOREST, IL — The official start of summer means Independence Day is less than two weeks away, and the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff communities are preparing for their tradition summer celebrations.

The Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade is due to return to its traditional route, and the lead singer from the rock band Boston is set to headline the annual Lake Forest Fireworks and Festival.

Here's what's in store this July 4 in Lake Bluff and Lake Forest:

What: 112th Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade When: 10 a.m. July 4, kids parade begins 9:30 a.m. Where: Village Green to Artesian Park

This year's theme is "Go 4th and March On," and the Lake Bluff Lawn Mower Precision Drill Team, known for its satirical and sometimes controversial contributions to the parade, will be 2022 marshal as it celebrates its 50th anniversary — or "golden mow."

"We are busy planning for a packed route and full-scale parade," Jennifer Leventhal, president of the Lake Bluff 4th of July Committee, said in a statement. "We will bring back some old favorites and mix in some new and exciting performing units. 2022 will be epic — especially with the Mowers in the lead."

What: 15th Annual Lake Forest Fireworks and Festival When: 6-10 p.m. (Gates open at 5 p.m., with fireworks around 9:40 p.m.) Where: Deerpath Community Park, 95 Deerpath Road

The Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation is organizing the family-friendly ticketed event with live classic rock music and kids activities ahead of fireworks set to patriotic tunes.

"This year's music entertainment is Tommy DeCarlo, singer of Boston with special guest Rudy Cardenas of American Idol performing the classic hits of Boston & Journey. Two great concerts, all the classic hits, and all the memories in one unforgettable evening," organizers announced.

Tickets are $30 for Lake Bluff and Lake Forest resident and $35 for non resident and available online. VIP and premier parking passes are also available.

Due to pandemic surges, counties or cities may adjust or cancel events at the last minute, so double-check with organizers. Know of other events in the area? Post them on the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch calendar.
